Solar incentives and rebates available for Queensland homes now

In Queensland, the solar rebate is available via the Federal Government’s small-scale technology certificates (STCs) program that is intended to ease the transition to solar by covering a significant part of the payment for infrastructure and installation.

The program is available to most Queenslanders. Queensland’s most common solar rebate is $3506 for 5kWh solar systems. If you install a larger system, the rebate amount will vary. For example, you will receive $4215 for a 6kWh, $4885 for 7kWh and $7029 for 10kWh. The STCs that make up your rebate are built into your installation costs, which makes the process extremely simple.

Queenslanders can also apply for interest-free loans from the state government for solar and solar storage, in addition to the solar rebate. The interest-free loans offered to Queenslanders through the state’s energy concessions program allow them to buy solar products without having to spend too much at first.

There are also the rewards you get for supplying solar energy back to the main grid, such as credits on your power bill. These credits are called feed-in tariffs, which are readily available in Queensland, allowing solar panels in some cases to pay for themselves within three years of installation.

Frequently Asked Questions

How Does a Solar System Work at Night?

At night, a solar system will not generate any electricity. It can only generate electricity when there is sunlight. Fortunately, you can still use solar power during overcast conditions as your solar system will still generate electricity.

There are two ways to power your home at night. The first is to access grid electricity so that you are using solar power at day and mains electricity at night. This means you will have reliable power around the clock, but you will pay more at night.

The second method is to include a modern battery solution with your installation. This allows you to bank solar power that can be used at night, saving you even more money. These batteries can store up to a week’s worth of electricity for your home (depending on your usage) and can also be accessed when rain sets in or during mains outages.

How Long Do Home Solar Systems Last?

Solar panels are manufactured from silicon and can last several decades with proper maintenance. With time, though, their effectiveness decreases.

A solar panel is typically extremely durable and requires little to no maintenance since there are no moving parts. Modern solar panels are becoming more durable and efficient as well, which means they will produce more power and last longer.

Do I Need to Maintain My New Solar Panels?

To make sure your solar panels are still generating efficiently, we recommend that you have your system serviced on an annual basis. If there are any faults or drops in production, we will fix or replace them immediately.

I have just installed solar at my home. Why did I still get an electricity bill?

Unless you have a battery storage system and are completely off the grid, you will still receive a utility bill. However, with a solar panel system that matches your energy use, you can drastically reduce your electricity bill, or even eliminate it altogether.

How does a Solar System work?

How Solar Panels Work
  1. Sunlight hits the Solar Panels
  2. The solar panels generate an electric current UV light into direct current (DC) power
  3. The electric current flows to the inverter, which converts DC current into alternating current (AC) for use in your home.
  1. The AC electricity flows from the inverter to the breaker box, which directs the current to any appliance in your home.
  2. The solar meter measures how much your solar system exports to the grid – feed in tariff (FIT) The feed in power is paid to you in credit or cash.
